Like everyone else you know, you constantly carry a high-resolution digital camera, and many of us use it to document every aspect of our lives for social platforms such as Instagram. Especially for younger people, their favorite subject to photograph is themselves. There’s never been another moment in history when people have taken so many self-portraits.
Once you’ve taken enough selfies, you start to learn what angles and lighting flatter you the best. However, looking at so many pictures of yourself spread across social media also has a negative effect of constantly reminding you of any flaws – especially if you have a double chin. Now, there’s a groundbreaking new product that can help melt away the “submental” fat cells under your chin and create more contour and definition in the notoriously hard-to-tone area.
What Is Kybella®?
If you’ve never heard of Kybella® before, you might be thinking it sounds too good to be true. But it really does work, and it’s based on scientific principles. Kybella® is an injectable product that contains deoxycholic acid, a naturally occurring compound that breaks down dietary fat. Kybella® is FDA-approved to use in the area under the chin to destroy fat cells, allowing your body to metabolize and gradually eliminate them.
Who Is a Good Candidate for Kybella®?
The best candidates for Kybella® are those who are at or near their target body weight, but who are genetically predisposed to have excess fat under their chin or in their upper neck area. For these people, often diet and exercise alone are not enough to eliminate their double chin.
Kybella® injections may be right for you if:
- A double chin has made you feel unhappy with your appearance.
- You frequently feel self-conscious that your chin makes you look older or heavier than you really are.
- Despite eating a healthy diet and following an exercise regimen, you still have stubborn submental fat under your chin.
- You are unwilling to commit to surgery.
- You understand Kybella® does not prevent the formation of new fat deposits if you gain weight.
What to Expect During Your Kybella® Treatment
Your non-surgical, minimally invasive Kybella® treatment will be scheduled in one of our offices, conveniently located in Baltimore and Columbia, Maryland. First, your injector will prepare your skin with a topical numbing cream to minimize discomfort and will then carefully administer your Kybella® injection using a small, fine needle.
The most common side effects include mild swelling, slight bruising, tenderness, and temporary numbness around the injection site, but these side effects are perfectly normal and tend to subside within a week or two after the initial treatment. You will not need to plan any recovery time after your injections. One Kybella® treatment session typically takes half an hour or less.
Your Kybella® Results
Results from Kybella® injections reveal themselves gradually, meaning you should expect to see continual improvements for several weeks after your initial treatment. Though many people see a marked difference after a single treatment, you may require more than one session, depending on your aesthetic goals and the amount of fat you are seeking to eliminate. We will determine the number of treatment sessions you might need during your consultation.
Once fat cells have been treated with Kybella®, they are permanently destroyed, so you should not need further treatments to maintain your results. However, you may opt to combine Kybella® injections with other non-surgical injectable treatments such as Juvéderm® or BOTOX® for anti-aging and overall better outcomes with no need for surgery.
