Motherhood changes you forever. Bringing a child into the world is one of the most emotionally rewarding and compelling experiences on earth. Learning about who your little one is and enjoying every little moment together is as close to magic as it gets.
For better and worse, childbirth fundamentally changes the body’s internal chemistry and appearance. Taking care of a toddler is also a full-time job, and finding the time (let alone energy) to work out can be nearly impossible. Even with hours of cardio and a healthy balanced diet, you probably can’t address many of pregnancy’s changes on your own.
Achieving tighter abs, reducing excess skin stretched by pregnancy, and getting your breasts to look like they did before breastfeeding all can seem like lost causes. That’s where the mommy makeover comes in. This hugely popular “surgery” has been on a steady rise over the last several years.
Mommy makeovers allow an expert and board-certified plastic surgeon to achieve holistic improvements by combining several cosmetic procedures, custom fit for your needs. Rather than spreading out appointments, operations, and recovery periods, the mommy makeover is an all-in-one transformation!
What Exactly is a Mommy Makeover?
Every mommy makeover is a bit different. In your consultation, your surgeon will help you create a customized treatment plan perfectly suited to your anatomy, lifestyle, and budget. Our patients love mommy makeovers because they can essentially be anything they want them to be!
If you have specific concerns, we can address them. In general, mommy makeovers tend to combine body contouring (such as liposuction or a tummy tuck) and cosmetic breast surgery (breast augmentation, reduction, or a breast lift), depending on your goals. Many patients also opt to include some form of non-invasive facial rejuvenation procedures like botox, facials, or laser treatments.
By combining procedures, you’ll shorten overall recovery time while gaining a range of cosmetic benefits. We work carefully with each patient to ensure their treatment plan is safe and efficient. If any patient is hoping for “too much” at once, we’ll discuss long term treatment options. We also advise that you do your own research before coming in.
What to Consider Before a Mommy Makeover
Before committing to a mommy makeover, or any surgical procedure, it’s critical to take your time before making a decision. Frankly, there’s much to consider and lots of information to consult. First, you’ll need to decide when and how you’re going to take the time to recover.
It’s essential to have someone around to help you in the house during these pivotal first stages of the healing process. You won’t be able to do any chores, and lifting toddlers is out of the question. You may want to ask a family friend or spouse to schedule time off to be by your side. Cooking, cleaning, or any other responsibilities around the house are going to be almost impossible to manage until you’ve healed enough.
You’ll be given a prescription of pain medication to aid with any discomfort during this period as well. As such, you won’t be able to drive and may need to schedule transportation for any errands once you’re on your feet.
Patients should expect some degree of swelling to last for at least several weeks to a few months. You’ll see significant improvements to your body’s appearance well before that, but sometimes swelling persists for up to six months before completely dissipating.
If you’re a smoker, you’ll need to quit for at least a month before and after your operation, as smoking can decrease circulation and increase your risk of complications.
Lastly, you should decide on which areas of your body you want to focus on, to give us the best idea of how we can help. After you’ve considered all that you can, it’s time to come in for your consultation.
